West Oakland, California, is often portrayed negatively in mainstream American media. But when I point my camera at the community’s people, I capture images of resilience, strength, and beauty. Like a formerly dilapidated shack transformed into an artistic home.
This painting instead depicts the feeling of doom regarding what an otherwise peaceful scene on earth might look like if we continue to allow climate change to progress at its current pace.

to wet a patch of lichen
soft gray-green
unfurling
spit bubbles stretching
and merging as tiny fingers
