Rain Painting 5 | Gouache and Rainwater on Paper | 7 x 5 inches | 2024
I step outside and the rain begins to play, bouncing fat drops against my upturned paper. Drops bead on my paints, clear orbs swelling until the tension releases, and they soak in, hydrating my purples and oranges.

I step outside and the rain begins to play, bouncing fat drops against my upturned paper. Drops bead on my paints, clear orbs swelling until the tension releases, and they soak in, hydrating my purples and oranges. I dip in my brush and touch it to paper — the pigment shoots across the page, fanning out from raindrop to raindrop. New splatters of sky-water mix and reform the piece, and suddenly, something tells me it’s done. I shield the sodden paper and make a mad dash for cover, pools of color swirling. As I lay it gingerly to dry, I rejoice in the collaboration, more attuned to the many types and personalities of rain than I thought possible.
