A Conversation on Establishing Food Security in Tanzania (1 of 3)

Fredy Nashon talks about food insecurity in Tanzania being aggravated by rapid population growth and his plan to help his community by transforming the system of food production to one based on permaculture and agroecology.

In the first segment of this three-part interview, Fredy Nashon describes to Kakoli Mitra the food insecurity that exists in Tanzania, which, in his opinion, is linked to more than 80% of Tanzanians relying on subsistence agriculture. Fredy wants to bring change to his community by transforming the system of food production. According to him, over 60% of the population lives below the international poverty line, and they do not get sufficient nutrition. One of the biggest factors contributing to food insecurity is the rapid growth of the Tanzanian population, which necessitates optimizing the utilization of resources to meet the people’s needs. Fredy talks about the importance of bringing the knowledge of credit (ability to get bank loans) to the common people.

author Fredy Sariro Nashon (he), who has expertise in banking, small and medium enterprises, and agriculture, is passionate about ensuring that Africans are food secure using approaches that are ecologically and economically sustainable.
